Sara Carter – Head Catering Chef
Chef Sara Carter was born in Charlotte, North Carolina, and grew up in Lake City, South Carolina. She graduated from North Carolina State University with a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and earned an Associate in Occupational Studies (AOS) in Culinary Arts and Sciences and Restaurant Management.
Truth be told, Sara says, she ended up in the hospitality business by accident. While waiting tables, she found that her wicked sense of humor and “that particular loose screw” made her a perfect fit for the industry. She has a passion for tackling the improvisational, spontaneous side of catering, and more than 20 years of experience have given her the ability to do so seamlessly.
In the kitchen, Sara is unquestionably hands-on, but she empowers those who work with her by creating an atmosphere of motivation and inspiration. She strives to make each team member efficient, productive, and happy, while leading by example.
As a chef in North Carolina in the 1990s, Sara was on the leading edge of what is now the farm-to-table movement in contemporary cuisine, and she went on to put the The Library at The Vendue Inn on Charleston’s culinary map. She derives tremendous satisfaction from hearing former colleagues credit her with igniting their desire to create simple, honest, beautiful food, and she counts this fact among her finest achievements.
Outside of the kitchen, Sara enjoys being outside with her children, Abby and Harley, and pets, Cosmo Kitty and Chloe Belle, as well as playing tennis, reading, and gardening.
